Over $2 Million Dollars Raised Thanks to Matching Donations

-- Haiti national flag --On January 12th, 2010, a massive 7.0 earthquake struck the country of Haiti.

The results were catastrophic, as many buildings were either completely destroyed or significantly damaged. There have been a total of 180,000 confirmed deaths so far, with that number expected to rise to 200,000 in the days and weeks ahead.

In addition, over a million people have lost their homes.

People all around the world sprung into action in the days following the quake, helping to raise millions upon millions of dollars towards Haitian relief efforts.

On January 14th, Pokerstars announced that they would be leading an effort to raise money from its players.

The site announced that they would match any donation made from its players, and that the money would be sent to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

The final total is in, and the players at Pokerstars were able to donate a total of $746,390.26 in just a couple of weeks.

Pokerstars, as promised, has matched every donation, meaning that a total of nearly $1.5 million dollars will be sent to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

Full Tilt Poker also spearheaded a fund-raising effort, promising to match every dollar donated by its players.

The result? A total of $329,736.64 was contributed by the players of Full Tilt Poker, meaning that the Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders and UNICEF organizations will receive a total of $659,473.28.

In total, over $2 million dollars was raised to help the people of Haiti, thanks to the players at Full Tilt Poker and Pokerstars, as well as the sites themselves.
