What does the term "going on a run" mean in the world of poker? What is the definition of "going on a run"?

In poker, "going on a run" refers to when you have a bunch of hands in a row that you end up winning. "Going on a run" will translate into a greatly inflated chip stack, where you are playing in a cash game, SNG or MTT.





For instance - let's say that you are playing in a tournament and you get dealt AA/AA/KK and AK, all in a row. In all four cases, you get all-in pre-flop, and in all four cases, you end up winning.

This would certainly qualify as "going on a run", as you were dealt four fortunate hands in a row, and ended up winning all four.

"Going on a run" is also known as "going on a rush" or experiencing a "rush".

The opposite of "going on a run" is to be card dead, which is when you get dealt absolutely nothing that is even remotely playable.

Poker is a game of variance and volatility. If you are currently in the midst of a good run, you should steel yourself against the inevitable downswing, which is almost always sure to follow. This is just part of the game of poker.
