Pokerstars World Record attempt - Largest ever online poker tournamentPokerstars announced earlier today that they are going to be attempting to break their own record for largest ever online poker tournament.

In December of 2009, Pokerstars broke their own Guinness world record when 149,196 people turned out to play in a $1 buy-in tournament. The event had a total guarantee of $300,000 and was eventually won by "oskar69".

Pokerstars had broken the world record at least twice before December of 2009. The record went from 35,000 (Pokerstars) to 65,000 to the current record of 149,196. Full Tilt Poker tried to break the record during their "FIVE" promotion, but Pokerstars was easily able to fend them off and keep their hands on the record.

Now, as part of their 10th anniversary celebration, Pokerstars is attempting to break their own record once again. A lofty goal, especially considering the fact that US players are no longer able to play on the site. Here are the details of the tournament:

-Sunday, December 4, 12:30 pm ET
-$1 buy-in
-$250,000 guaranteed prize pool
-$50,000 first place prize

--

Given everything that has transpired over the past seven months in the online poker industry, it's quite amazing that Pokerstars is in a position to even think about breaking this record.
