tournament logo - national heads-up championship - pokerRound one of the 2009 National Heads-up Poker Championship is now finished, with Round two picking up at 12 pm tomorrow (Saturday).

Chris "Jesus" Ferguson, the defending champion of the event, was knocked out by Gabe Kaplan Friday night and will not be back to defend his title.

Jeffrey Ishbia was the lone qualifier to make it through to Round two. He squared off against another qualifier, Leon Yanovski, in Round one and will now face off against Phil Hellmuth in Round two.

Mike Matusow, Doyle Brunson and Erik Seidel were some of the notable names that were eliminated on Day one of the event.

David Oppenheim moved on to the second round with a victory over Vanessa Selbst. This is notable because Oppenheim wasn't even scheduled to play in the event - he filled in for Layne Flack, who spent the night in a Las Vegas area jail after being arrested for DUI.

The round of 32 features some very intriguing match-ups, including:

Tom Dwan vs Barry Greenstein

Gus Hansen vs Huck Seed

Eli Elezra vs Erick Lindgren

If Dwan and Hellmuth both win their second round match-ups, then they will face off against each other in the Round of 16. Who can forget Hellmuth's blow-up in last year's event when Dwan sucked out on him?

Here is the full list of second round match-ups:

Cheadle vs Wasicka

Ivey vs Rousso

Nguyen vs Forrest

Negreanu vs Minieri

Kaplan vs Juanda

Sahamies vs Grospellier ("Ziigmund" vs "ElkY")
