ElkY Takes Down $25,000 High-Roller Event at the 2009 PCA
Published on 2009-01-09 03:22:31Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier continues to run hotter than the sun, as he has just taken down the $25k High-Roller event at the 2009 PCA.
Once the final table got down to five-handed play, Grospellier completely dominated and was never in any real danger. The heads-up contest between Grospellier and Will Molson was over in a flash, as Grospellier possessed a dominating chip-lead heading into heads-up play.
The final hand of the tournament came when Molson pushed his short-stack into the middle holding K-T, and was instantly called by Grospellier and his A-J.
After an Ace came on the turn, Molson was left with a gutshot straight draw and would need a Jack to win the hand. A jack was nowhere to be found on the river, and Grospellier took down the tournament and the $300k+ first place prize.
This victory caps what has been a ridiculous 12-month run for Grospellier.
He started off his run with a victory at the 2008 PCA main event, which was good for $2 million dollars.
He then finished in fifth place at the Grand Prix de Paris main event in May for over $120k.
"ElkY" then won his first ever WPT title in October when he took down the 2008 Festa al Lago Classic main event for over $1.4 million.
These numbers don't include Grospellier's ridiculous performance at the 2008 WCOOP. "ElkY" cashed a total of seven times in the event for over $400k. This included a second place finish in the $25k Heads-Up event, and a 21st place finish in the $5200 Main Event.
Over the past calendar year, Grospellier has at least $4.5 million dollars in total cashes, including both his "live" tournament and online play. Also keep in mind that Grospellier very likely receives some hefty bonuses from Pokerstars whenever he takes down a major tournament.
An absolutely ridiculous run.
