It took another online player to put an end to Jared "Wacokidd" Hamby's massively hot streak.
Shawn Buchanan, second in chips heading into the heads-up matchup, easily handled Hamby in heads-up action, taking down a first place prize of $768,775 dollars and the right to call himself a WPT champion. Hamby, for finishing second, took home $459,080 in prize money.
Jared "Wacokidd" Hamby can take some comfort in the fact that he has now won well over a million dollars playing live in the last few months. It will be interesting to see what kind of damage Hamby inflicts on the World Series of Poker, now that he is free and clear to start playing those events.
The final ten players featured a great mix of live pros and online pros, and was a real treat to watch. A list of the names that made it to the final ten included:
Ryan "Daut44" Daut, who recently won the 2007 PCA
Chau Giang, noted cash game player
J.C. "PartyPSux" Alvarado, a very good online and live poker player
Barry Greenstein (self-explanatory), probably the best pure poker player at the table, and undoubtedly the smart
Thayer "Thay3r" Rasmussen, another very successful online player
Jared "Wacokidd " Hamby
Just another tournament that was won by a prominent online player. Get used to it, because you will be seeing much more of this pattern in the future.
