The King is on his laptop and on his gold phone receiving / reporting the latest from Pokerstars NJEarlier today, Pokerstars announced that their newest product, "Pokerstars NJ", had satisfied the conditions of its "soft launch" and would be going live for everyone in the state of New Jersey.

The news is very significant, as we've detailed before, as it marks the first time that Pokerstars has operated on a real money basis within the United States since "Black Friday". The launch also means that Pokerstars may start operating in other states as they become available in the future.

As expected, there were just 50-60 players active on the site in the morning but that number has grown steadily over the course of the day.

As of this moment, over 400 players are currently active on Pokerstars NJ. According to Pokerscout.com, this number already makes Pokerstars NJ the largest online poker operation in the state of New Jersey. Sure, there might be a bit of a drop-off after the novelty of the launch has worn off, though Pokerstars has proven to be skilled at customer retention, so I would expect their numbers to remain somewhat steady.

The first official tournament on Pokerstars NJ (the first two tournaments were cancelled due to low turnouts) was a $15 NLHE event, which ended up attracting 27 entries to create a total prize pool of approximately $365 (the guarantee was $250).

Pokerstars held a media event at Resorts Casino & Hotel to celebrate the launch of "Pokerstars NJ". A number of their sponsored players, including Jason Mercier and Jason Somerville, are currently in New Jersey to take part in the launch and play on the newly minted site.
