shawn_sheikhan facing deportation back to iranShawn Sheikhan, often seen on Poker After Dark or reruns of the World Series of Poker, is facing possible deportation to his birthplace of Iran. This stems from a 1995 conviction on charges of sexual battery and "annoyance or molestation of a child."

According to documents filed with the US District Court in Las Vegas, immigration officials arrested Sheikhan in his home on August 30th. He was held for more than a week before eventually being released on a $10,000 bond.

Sheikham received a misdemeanor conviction in 1995, and is now being targeted for deportation by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. According to a spokesperson for the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency, they have an initiative called Operation Predator which looks to deport individuals "who prey upon and sexually exploit children."

Sheikhan is a permanent US resident. The exact nature of his crime is unknown; all that is known is that he spent nine months in jail and served five years of probation because of the crime, and that the US government deems it to be a deportable offense.

Sheikhan, through his lawyer, said that he is fighting the deportation. More on this story later.
