Profile of Darvin Moon
 |

Name: Darvin Moon
Born: Exact birthdate unknown - he is currently 45 years old.
Prior to Poker: Darvin Moon is not a professional poker player - far from it.
Moon lives in Oakland, Maryland and is a logger by trade. Don't believe him? He has a large scar on his left arm from a logging accident years ago.
Moon strikes me as the type of guy who wouldn't dream of leaving his job as a logger to become a professional poker player. As a matter of fact, he went straight back to work after the World Series of Poker final table was set last week.
What will Moon do with his time off? Receive coaching from one of the game's greats? Secure himself a lucrative sponsorship deal? Move to Vegas?
Nope. Instead he'll be laboring away at his job as a logger, because that is what he loves to do. He owns his own small logging company, and he has employees that depend on him. The World Series of Poker was a fun distraction for Moon, but nothing more than that.
You've got to give the man respect for that.
Breakthrough: Considering that Moon had no documented cashes prior to the 2009 World Series of Poker, his breakthrough (obviously) came at the 2009 WSOP.
Darvin Moon qualified for the event by winning a satellite tournament at the Wheeling Island Casino in West Virginia.
The casino gave him a choice - a seat in the main event, or $10,000 cash.
After much deliberation, Moon decided to take the seat, and the rest is history.
Career Highlights: See above. Considering that nobody outside of Oakland, Maryland had heard of Darvin Moon prior to the 2009 World Series of Poker taking place, I am pretty sure that Moon's run in the 2009 WSOP will qualify as the highlight of his poker career.
Lifetime Earnings: $1,263,602 (this represents the minimum amount of money that he will receive for making the final table of the World Series of Poker. A victory in the event could earn Moon a total of $8.54 million dollars).
Other Notes: Darvin Moon is currently the chip leader of the 2009 World Series of Poker. He has a stack of nearly 59 million chips, and will be looking to use this massive stack to his advantage when play resumes in November.
Moon is a fan of the New Orleans Saints, as evidenced by his attire during the main event.
Moon is humble about his skills as a poker player, and acknowledges that he benefited from a tremendous run of luck during the main event.
Darvin Moon may be the first player in a long while that appears at the final table without any logos on. He cites a desire to "do his own thing" as the reason why he is refusing to sign a sponsorship deal.
