Phil Ivey Fifth In Chips Heading Into Final Day of Play of WPT Bellagio Cup VI

-- Phil Ivey in the thinking mode -- Leave it to Phil Ivey to steal some of the spotlight from the World Series of Poker main event.

After a long and grueling day of play, Phil Ivey has made the final table of the WPT Bellagio Cup VI. This is the ninth WPT final table of Ivey's career, and he is hoping that he can win his second WPT title on Thursday.

Ivey will have his work cut out for him at the final table though, as he currently sits fifth in chips (1,595,000) heading into the final day of play on Thursday.

John Caridad finished Day 4 as the dominant chip leader in the tournament, as he will take over 5.1 million chips with him into the TV final table.

Here are the chip stacks heading into Day 5 on Thursday:

John Caridad, 5,120,000
Moritz Kranich, 2,750,000
Justin Smith, 2,100,000
Robert Akery, 1,980,000
Phil Ivey, 1,595,000
Eric Afriat, 620,000

All six of the TV final table participants will receive at least $118,950 for making it this far, with the eventual winner of the event taking home $875,150.

--

Phil Ivey’s final table appearance has come despite the fact that he registered over two full days late for this event.

Tournament organizers took the unusual step of extending late registration until 1:30 pm on Tuesday in order to accommodate bust-outs from the World Series of Poker main event. Ivey overcame the disadvantage of starting with just 20 BBs in his stack, quickly accumulating chips while other late registrants busted in rapid succession.

Ivey will be gunning for the second WPT title of his career on Thursday - he also won the 2008 LA Poker Classic for over $1.5 million.

If Phil manages to win the WPT Bellagio Cup VI, then he will earn the distinction of winning both a World Series of Poker bracelet and WPT title over the course of just one month.

In addition, a victory in this event would bring his total lifetime tournament cashes to over $14 million.

The WPT Bellagio Cup VI TV final table will get under way on Thursday afternoon.
