Jamie Gold Wins 2006 World Series of Poker
 |

Plenty of people seem to dislike Jamie Gold. Not only people who were watching the World Series of Poker event live, but also those who played with him in the tournament. He is definitely not destined to become a popular champion like Greg Raymer was. But there can be no arguing the fact that Jamie Gold completely dominated this year's World Series of Poker. He was chipleader for almost five days straight, and was never in danger at the final table, often holding more than 50% of the total chips in his stack.
Some people were advising him to sit back and wait, but he played his big stack perfectly, bullying people out of pots and having people play back at him at all of the wrong times. He someone re-raised him, he'd have a bigger pair; when someone checked the flop after making a preflop raise, he'd bully them out of the pot, every time.
I believe that Gold dispatched of every player at his table, and he made mincemeat out of the strongest player at the table, Allen Cunningham. He won the $12 million dollar prize when his pair of Queens held against a pocket pair of tens. Gold, who had openly mused before the final table that he may dump chips in order to finish second and not become famous, obviously changed his mind, as he made quick work of his opponent when it got heads up.
Now the question is: does Gold have game? He played well, but did the deck just hit him square in the face over the last week or so of play? Can he do it again? Time will tell.
