The Party Poker Million Fiasco
 |

This past weekend Party Poker was running its Party Poker Million dollar guaranteed event when they suffered a major software malfunction. With 752 players remaining in the event, their software went haywire. This happens quite often, and normally Party Poker will just cancel the rest of the tournament and distribute the prize money based on chip counts, which is fine.
However, the glitch in Party Poker's software enabled some players to keep playing, while most were unable to play. So you had a couple of people going around and stealing as many blinds as they possibly could, with some taking their stacks from 40k to 160k in just a few minutes. Others saw their stacks go from 50k in 500 chips.
The outrageous thing is that Party Poker paid out based on the aftermath of all this stealing. So basically, if you had a 40k stack before the software malfunction and were unable to play, and when Party Poker cancelled the tournament you were down to 500 chips, you were paid out based on the 500 chips, and not the 40k you had when you were unable to play.
This is completely unfair, and while I didn't play the tournament, I am going to be contacting some people at Party Poker to try and rectify this situation. This is completely unacceptable, and some people are getting screwed out of a lot of money. We will update this situation as we hear more.
UPDATE: Party Poker made good and compensated the players that were taken advantage of, and gave them an extra $100 for their troubles. Party came through, players seem to be pleased with the resolution.
