World Series of Poker Update: Days 1A - 1D Completed
 |

Days 1A through 1D of the World Series of Poker are now complete. A total of 8,773 entrants took part in this year's World Series of Poker, making for a sick overall prize pool of over 87 million dollars. WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack thinks that the first prize amount should be about 11.5 million dollars. Everyone who makes the final table will be a millionaire.
Now, let's look at the play so far. Any surprises? Well, according to most of the pros who have spoken about their first day experience, the quality of play in this year's World Series of Poker is TERRIBLE. Many of these players are Internet qualifiers, and have never played live before, so they aren't sure how to handle chips, how the button works, etc. I can only imagine that pros are absolutely feasting on these players, as these amateur players surely have some major tells.
Daniel Negreanu is doing very well so far, and I expect he will get close to the final table. Allan Cunningham is following up a strong WSOP so far and is near the top in chips. Jeffrey Lisandro is near the leaderboard. Chris "Jesus" Ferguson is doing well. Phil Ivey and John Juanda, two of my favorites to reach the final table, are still in the tournament, but have below average stacks.
Who are the surprise knock-outs so far? Michael Mizrachi and Doyle Brunson are both out of the tournament. Mizrachi had a fairly poor World Series of Poker. After cashing seven times last year, I was expecting more out of the "Grinder."
Early into Day 2A, the chip leader is James Crowshaw. We'll post another update once days 2A and 2B are completed.
